The biggest social media content mistake
The biggest mistake I see on company social media pages? Way too much 'family Facebook' content.
What do I mean by this?
A lot of companies still post content that looks like this:
❌ Here's a thing we did.
❌ Here's a thing which happened.
❌ Here's an event we attended.
❌ Here's an award we won.
❌ Here's a milestone we celebrated.
Those are all great examples of content, if you were posting for friends and family on your personal Facebook account.
But for a company account, these types of newsy updates are nearly always too internally focused to be effective or engaging.
Because no one cares what you're up to.
Instead, external content works better when it looks like this:
✔️ Here's a service we provide.
✔️ Here's how to use it better.
✔️ Here's some support we offer.
✔️ Here's an event you can attend.
✔️ Here's an improvement you asked for.
There will always be pressure from above to post the 'look at us' content. It's our job to minimise and deflect it.
The sooner we all get out of 'social = newsy updates' mode the better.
